Zoey Employee Spotlight Jennifer

1. What pets share your life? (be sure to include names, ages, species, and how you found/chose your pet)?

We have 3 cats and 2 dogs in our house.

Zoey is a 9 year old Yellow Lab. We adopted her when she was 2 years old from Pure Bred Rescue. When my 3 year old son and I went to pick her up she immediately laid down on the floor and put her belly up in the air so my son could pet her. She sat in the back seat of the van with Will with her head in his lap all the way home. She’s a great dog and we love her dearly. She sleeps with my son Quinn every night no matter what. Zoey also loves to retrieve tennis balls. She will do this for hours if you are willing.

In November of last year we adopted Max a 12 year old Yellow Lab. I saw his picture and profile on an adoption website . His owner had to give him up because she was moving into an apartment and couldn’t take him. I felt so bad for the old guy – it’s hard to find a home for a dog that old, especially a large breed. My kids and I decided we would give him a home to live out his final years in happiness. He was on another brand of dog food his entire life and has some hip/back issues. We changed him over to Iams Senior and we can see a tremendous difference in his ability to get around. He doesn’t run very much but he will get spunky every once in a while. He is a very sweet boy and fits in quite well with everyone.

We also have 3 cats. Kipper is a 2 year old long haired tiger cat. He has become my daughter’s cat mostly because she used to hold him constantly when we first brought him home. She would wrap him up like a baby and push him around in her doll stroller. I think Kipper believes that Catherine is his mother. Kipper was adopted from an animal shelter during the Home for the Holiday’s campaign. Simon is a 1 year old black long haired cat. He is everybody’s friend. He was also adopted from an animal shelter during Home for the Holidays. Simon is one cool cat – he loves the sound of the shower water, can climb ladders and likes to scrunch up his big body into small places when napping. Our third cat is Virgo who we adopted from the Iams Friends for Life program. He’s not much of a people cat, but he sure does love the other two kitties. We call the 3 of them the “furry boys”. They love to chase each other around the house after everyone has gone to bed. After a few hours they finally come upstairs and crash on the kids beds or in a laundry basket.

2. What is your pet(s) most unusual habit?

Our old guy – Max, can carry 3 tennis balls in his mouth at one time. One evening we took him on a walk to go visit our neighbor down the street and didn’t realize he was carrying a tennis ball in his mouth the entire time. We went into our neighbor’s house and Max dropped the ball in front of him! If he’s feeling really spunky he can get a Kong and two tennis balls in his mouth at once.

Our cat Simon likes to sit in bathroom while the kids take a shower. When they get out of the shower he rubs against their legs and bites their toes. Sometimes he even will peek his head into the shower while it’s running.

 3. What’s your favorite story about pets in the office?

About 5 years ago when I first moved over to the Product Supply group there were several people who had Boston Terriers. They would usually all be in the office on Fridays and we would have the “Boston Terrier Races” on our floor. The dogs would chase each other around the entire floor (we had an “open office” layout). They could literally run a circular course around the entire Product Supply floor. It was like a horse race in our department. They were so much fun to have in our group.

4. How does your job at Pet Care make a difference OR what is your favorite part of working at Pet Care?

I love working in Pet Care because I am very passionate about pets and the joy they bring to our lives. I have always had pets in my life since I was a child. I was an Iams user long before I was an Iams employee!

I can remember driving past the Iams building on my way to Sidney for my job and always wishing I could work for Iams. It was always my dream to work for Iams. How cool is it to be able to market a product that you use every day and completely believe in.

Employee Spotlight – Meghan

Meghan has been with Pet Care for 1 ½ years and supports our Product Supply department.  We were able to interview her and find out more about the pets that she shares her life with and why she likes working for Pet Care.  Read more to hear about the nicknames she has given her 3 dogs and how Brutis added some entertainment to a meeting…….

MakuaTopanga&Brutis

1. What pets share your life?

I have three red rescue dogs.  There names are Makua, Brutis and Topanga.  Each dog comes from a different state my husband and I have lived in.  We found Makua first in Hawaii.  We were having a BBQ on the beach and this little scared dog wonder up to us trying to get some food.  It was love at first site!  We made sure she was no ones dog (there are a lot of wild dogs in HI.) and then we took her home.  We got ‘Panga next from a shelter in Los Angles.  She was a 17 lb, 4 month old puppy that had Parvo and was facing death.  We took her and got her treatment, and now she is a 95 lb 2 year old!  When we fist moved to Ohio, my husband was working on a job site and saw Brutis chained to a fence on a 5′ lead with no water, food or shelter in the middle of winter.  My husband put a note on the guys’ door and asked to buy the dog.  A day and $100 later we brought home Brutis.  At that time he was only 25 lbs and had marks on him from fighting.  He is now just under 50 lbs and the biggest baby to his mommy!  All of my dogs are part of the family, well behaved, and completely spoiled!  It is important to me to help rescue dogs from bad situations and give them the home and life that they always deserved.  I just wish I had never ending space to help all dogs that needed it.  It is something I will continue to do my entire life a few dogs at a time.

2. What is the funniest OR most unusual thing your pet(s) has ever done?

Overall life is better and funnier with animals in it!  My dogs do so many great things for my husband and I it’s hard to count them all.  I think the best is that they all have very different personalities; we capture this through there nicknames.  Makua is also known around the house as Stinky and/ or Frogger.  Stinky I don’t think I have to explain much; she even scares herself sometimes.  Frogger because she lies down with both of her back legs out to the side and she looks like a frog.  Topanga is called Chewy, because she always groans, and talks and she really does sound like Chewbacca.  Brutis we call Piggy because he snores and snorts all the time.

3. What’s your favorite story about pets in the office?

Brutis LOVES to come to the office because of all the attention!
One day, I was in a meeting with a few people that I don’t always meet with and I had Brutis with me.  He was excited when everyone came in a said hello to him, but then he calmed down and fell asleep.  Brutis snores when he sleeps.  When he starts it’s heaving breathing and then gets louder as time goes on.  Pretty soon Brutis was snoring a way.  I guess since I don’t always meet with the people in the room that day, they didn’t feel comfortable asking what the noise was, and since I am so use to hearing it, I didn’t even notice to say anything.  Finally after a while I did say, “Sorry, you will have to excuse my dog, he always snores.”  When I did the whole room broke out with laughter and conformations that everyone was trying to figure out what that noise was.  They were glad it was Brutis!

4. What is your favorite part of working at Pet Care?

There are a few reasons I love working in Pet Care besides making a difference and contribution to the business with my job.  I love having animals around me when I work, and I enjoy the convenience of bringing my animals to work.  I also believe that P&G Pet Care makes a difference a help a lot of animals with Home for the Holidays, by taking time to fix up shelter that may not have the funds to do it, and by providing all animals who eat IAMS or Eukanuba with great nutrition that makes a visible difference in your animal.  You can see the strength of our food in the animal’s coat, muscle gain, and the animal’s energy level.  I saw my dogs improve about a month after I changed to IAMS.  I love working for Pet Care because I believe in what we do and the products we provide!

1. What pets share your life? (be sure to include names, ages, species, and how you found/chose your pet)?

I have a 4-1/2 year old Chi-Poo named Harley.  I found Harley in a flea market pet store in Michigan while visiting family for Thanksgiving in 2005.  He was as cute as could be stuck in a cage behind the counter.  I asked why he was back there alone and she said he was special.  Once I held him, I was hooked.

2. What is the funniest OR most unusual thing your pet(s) has ever done?

When Harley was 6 months old, he started favoring his left hind leg, later determined to be Legg-Calve-Perthes disease.  Because he had discomfort in his hip when he hiked his leg, he would throw his body up in the air and urinate with both hind legs off the ground.  He’s now developed this to an art of a complete walking hand-stand while urinating.

Harley has also developed his way to communicate with me.  When he wants something, he doesn’t bark … he actually moans.  It’s like he is trying to talk to me with his mouth closed and it comes out as a very colorful and pitchy moan, which continues until he gets his way.

3. What is your favorite part of working at Pet Care?

My favorite part of Pet Care is working with people who have the same passion for pets as I do.  The business reviews are also very exciting and energetic and makes me feel good about working in Pet Care.
